Vegan Diet

Here are the multiple benefits of being on a vegan diet and how it can benefit your overall.

Improving your immune system

Athletes such as Novak Djokovic, Lewis Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alex Morgan, and Nick Krgios all promote a vegan-based diet. A vegan diet is great for multiple reasons such as having a high amount of vitamins and minerals. Not only is it great for these nutrients but it is also good for phytochemicals and antioxidants. These are all great for keeping your cells healthy and your body balanced.

A healthy immune system brings multiple benefits to the table. One of these is that helps reduce the risks of cancer simply because it recognizes cells mutating before they progress to disease. Obviously, there are multiple ways you can get cancer but a healthy immune system can help reduce the chances of it.

A vegan diet reduces inflammation

The nutrients that you get from plants are great to resolve inflammation in your body. These are the same ones that love boosting your immune system helping kill off toxins from pollution, processed foods, bacteria, viruses, etc.

Inflammation can damage the cells in your body if it is not dealt with early on. The damage to those cells has been linked to many things such as cancer and arthritis. It is important that you reduce inflammation by a healthy diet, whether it is vegan or not.

A vegan diet is also good for maintaining a healthy weight which reduces the chances of health issues when being overweight. These are type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, and many more.

Obesity can be reduced in many ways such as exercising, a healthy diet, and calorie counting. Making sure you keep on top of your diet is key for our health so make sure you keep on top of it.

A vegan diet is high in fiber

Fiber is a regular nutrient in many foods that are unprocessed. This is something that helps make up the structure of the plant. Fiber helps improve the health of your gut by making it easier to absorb the nutrients from the food that you are eating.

Fiber is also good for lowering your cholesterol as well as keeping your blood levels balanced. Not to mention it is also good for bowel management. One final positive about fiber is that it can reduce the risk of the third common cancer, colorectal cancer. There are many foods out there that can help lower cholesterol. Just make sure you do plenty of research and you will not struggle to include these foods in your diet.

Cook healthy

Plant-based meals are really good for avoiding sugar and fat. Deep frying vegetables will obviously not help with this so you need to make sure that you are cooking them in a healthy way. You can make the most of your vegetables by finding out other healthy cooking methods.

Targetting wholegrain foods is another good way to make sure you are getting all the health benefits that come with a plant-based diet.  White bread, pasta, and white rice are healthy foods but they could be healthier.  Choose whole-wheat pasta and bread as well as pick up a packet of brown rice from the shops.

Downfalls of a vegan diet

There is one issue with a vegan diet which is whether or not it provides enough vitamin B12. This is a vitamin that is often found in meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. These are all foods that are not in a vegan diet.

Health experts recommend having at least 1.5 micrograms of vitamins per day. Being deficient in vitamin B12 can lead to many issues such as numbness and fatigue. It can also lead to mood changes as well.

Iron is another mineral that is often found in meats and many vegetarians/ vegans find it difficult to find foods with Iron. Some people will just have an Iron supplement of some sort to get their daily intake. However, there are foods out there that are not meat and are rich in Iron.

A vegan diet can cause deficiencies with certain vitamins and minerals which could lead to mental health problems. You should make sure that you eat “Superfoods” that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Either that or implement a multivitamin to make sure you get your daily requirement for them.

To conclude

A vegan diet is a great way to start being healthier, but it is not for everyone. Everybody will have different needs for their diet. Some people will want to gain weight, others will want to lose weight and some people just want to eat healthily.
